What to expect

When you first arrive at Posey's Hearing Aid Center you will be greeted by one of our friendly office staff who will provide you with a patient questionaire to tell us a little more about you. You may also enjoy a cup of coffee and refreshments while completing this form.

Meeting Your Hearing Aid Specialist

Once you have completed the short form you will meet with one of our hearing aid specialists. It is important for the specialist to know where you are having problems, the kind of environment you frequent, your social habits and expectations. From there they will perform a number of tests to determine the level and nature of your hearing loss.

Our hearing evaluation is thorough and accurate. We will test your hearing, assess the health of your middle ear, and inspect your ear canal on a video monitor. We will also provide a detailed description of your hearing loss. Findings and recommendations will be made at this time. If amplification is warranted you will have the opportunity to experience and learn about the latest technology in hearing aids. A specific hearing instrument program will be recommended for you at this time.

About Our Testing

Audiometric Test—Involves both air conduction and bone conduction testing to determine if the loss is conductive, sensorineural or mixed. We will provide tones to your ears at varying pitches to determine the softest level at which you can hear each tone.

Speech Reception Test—You will be asked to repeat a series of two-syllable words, each word at a softer volume than the previous. We will determine the softest level at which you can intelligibly understand words.

Loudness Test—Your threshold for loudness will be tested to determine your dynamic range. The louder the sound you can tolerate, the better your chances are for regaining the fidelity of the world.

Speech Discrimination Test—You will repeat a series of words at your most comfortable volume level in each ear individually. This test will help to determine how well your brain can process and recognize the sounds your ears send.
